Feed My Sheep Kit
…him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
– John 21:17
We LOVE Missionaries and we LOVE sending Care Packages!
This box can be sent at any time of year – but some of the sheep items are more easily found in the Spring around Easter time. If you plan to send it later in the year – just purchase the sheep books and suckers in advance and save them. Or better yet, buy them right after Easter when everything goes on clearance.
If you would like to send your own ‘Feed My Sheep’ Care Package to your Missionary – check out this kit we put together to help you do just that!
Your 17-Page Kit will include the following:
✔ 1-Introduction Letter with easy to follow instructions to help you put together the Perfect Care Package.
✔ 4- Large (11.5X8.5″) Adjustable Stickers to decorate your 4 box flaps of your shipping package. Just peel and stick! (These stickers are designed to fit a USPS Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box and large UPS boxes. The stickers can also be easily trimmed to fit a USPS Priority Mail Medium Flat Rate Box as well as some Medium and Small UPS boxes or use your own box.) * Please note the kit does not include the actual box,
✔ 1-Box Introduction Letter to be placed in your Box right before you tape it up. This unique design lets your Missionary know the theme of your care package and that something special has been created just for them!
✔ 1-Page of Unique Envelope Designs that you can adhere to the front of your Letter to your Missionary and their Companion! This page is also printed on sticker paper – so you just need to cut them out and adhere to any envelope of your choice. It’s that easy!
✔ 1-Custom Missionary Letter for you to include with your personal Letter to your Missionary.
✔ 10-Pages with over 43 Custom Tags that Can Be Used Throughout Your Box as Desired
Baaaa… You’ve Got Mail! One thing we always included in all of our Missionary Box Mom Boxes was a personalized letter to each Missionary from each Mother. Inside our letters we included our testimonies, the reason we chose that particular item to include in the box, along with uplifting messages filled with love. A lot of the items won’t make much sense as to why you are including them in the box unless you explain how it specifically applies to your Missionary and to Missionary work. Many times over I have received thank you letters from our Missionaries – but the things they thanked us for the most was the letters we included. It’s just a little piece of ‘Home’ in a box! So don’t forget to write!

To go along with our ‘Feed My Sheep’ theme our cute Missionary Mom, Michelle Robinson, spent a lot of time researching what Daniel’s Pulse Seed/Grain Mixture might have been and this is what she came up with. It is rich in protein and more vitamins than I could list!
What a fabulous way for our Missionaries to start their busy mornings! 😀
Daniel’s Pulse Breakfast: (Healthiest Breakfast in ALL History!)
One Serving:
1/4 Cup Grain (Pulse)
3/4 Cup Water
Pour measured water in a pot, bring to a full boil. Add grain mixture – then simmer on low heat with the lid on the pot for 45 minutes to 1 hour – or until tender. Optional: Top with nuts, fruit, honey, and/or cinnamon.
Make up the Pulse Mixture in bulk (Recipe Below) and send the whole amount or in whatever quantities you prefer.
Daniel’s Pulse Recipe (D&C 89:16)
4 C. Kamut Grain (Has been found in Egyptian tombs. Sometimes called Pharaoh’s or Noah’s wheat.)
2 C. Barley (Has been used by the Hebrews for thousands of years.)
1 C. Millet (Oldest Grain in History.)
1 C. Quinoa Grain (Grain of the Incas.)
3/4 C. Rye (Found in Germany in 400B.C.)
3 C. Oats Groats (Whole grain oats – not rolled.) (Found in Ancient Asia.)
2 C. Buckwheat (Not the black buckwheat – you want the one with the casing removed so it is green/brown in color.)
3 1/2 C. Brown Rice (This gives your mixture a creamy texture.)
3 C. Spelt (This is an old world wheat that hasn’t been genetically altered.)
1/2 C. Teff Grain (Tiny Seeds) (Found in Ethiopia.)
1/2 C. Amaranth Grain
1/2 C. Flax Seeds (Dark Black in Color.) (Found in 4000B.C.)
1/2 Chia Seeds (Ancient grains of the Aztecs. They would eat it before going to war.)
1/4 C. Sesame Seeds (Egyptian)
1/2 C. Raw Pumpkin Seeds (They are green and smaller than the white baked ones.)
1/4 C. Poppy Seeds
1/4 C. Hemp Seeds (Optional)
1 C. Sorgum Grain
Mix in a large bowl with your hands then keep in a sealed jar. To cook you use a 1 to 3 ration – 3 parts Water to 1 part Grain. Do not cook on high heat – just bring the water to boil then simmer on low with a lid.
* You can find most of these items at Good Earth, Kitchen Kneads, WinCo, and your local Health Food Stores or online at Amazon.com.)
Daniel 1:12-16
12 Prove they servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the King’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
14 So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.
16 Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.

Sheep Poop & All!!! As we decided on each ‘Missionary Box Theme’, which we based around a scripture or missionary teaching idea, we would then brainstorm fun ideas that could be included in our box. With this ‘Box’ we definitely went a little crazy with our ‘Sheep’ ideas and I’m sure it was just as much fun for us to build it as it was for our missionaries to receive it! My box was temporarily delayed in customs and it was a hoot trying to explain just exactly what was in this box to the customs agent!!! (Yes sir I even told him about the Sheep Poop Raisinets Candy!)
Depending on the size of the box you are sending – you could include or delete any of the following items – or come up with a few of your own. We tried to make sure that most of our items could be used to enhance missionary discussions, to be given away, to decorate their missionary apartments and left for future missionaries when they moved on, or simply eaten and enjoyed. But of course there were always a few that were just for fun!
Sheep Theme Ideas:
1. Make Your Own Feed Bag – Create your own ‘Feed Bag’ with any muslin sack tied off with yarn on the corners. You can simply write directly on the muslin ‘Feed Bag’ and the scripture John 21:15-17. 16. Guard Dog – Sheep Dogs Printout Description (Included in the MBM Kit.)
Sheepdogs are Society’s Protectors
While both herding dogs and livestock guardian dogs are known as sheepdogs, their roles are quite different. Herding dogs bark at, nip, and stare down animals to keep them together and moving in a certain way. Livestock guardian dogs, on the other hand, live with their flock of animals full-time, allowing them to blend in and watch for intruders within the herd. Livestock guardian dogs are place in the flock as puppies so that they “imprint” on the animals they will be tasked with caring for and protecting.
Sheepdogs are Trustworthy, Attentive, and Protective
The role of human “sheepdogs” is almost exactly that of their canine counterparts. Like actual sheepdogs, they live among the flock – one of them, and yet different and set apart. They protect the perimeter and vigilantly watch for evil “wolves”. They are prepared to make a stand against those who would do others harm, but outside of times of crisis, they are gentle trustworthy. Human sheepdogs are individuals who have a capacity for a moral compass and a deep love for their fellow citizens. Their hardihood and bravery gives them the ability to walk into the heart of darkness, into the universal human phobia, and walk out unscathed.
Sheep find sheepdogs annoying when things are fine. For example, most people grumble about the police when they get a ticket for a minor traffic violation. But when a wolf shows up, and the police catch him, the complaining stops and people turn out to line the streets, cheer them on, and shower them with gratitude.
Sheepdogs make up a very small percentage of the population. Their ministration is essential.
Sheepdogs are Made, Not Born
Being a sheepdog isn’t a matter of birth; it’s a choice – a matter of mental, spiritual, and physical training. In order to become a sheepdog, you consciously decide to do so and then diligently maintain your mental, physical, and spiritual vigilance. The sheepdog looks to the leadership and guidance of the Shepherd, recognizing it as the Shepherd’s flock.

23. Shepherd – 5X7 Framed Photo Jesus/Sheep entitled ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’. (Print off the Painting description shown below, fold and place with the frame.)
The enduring image of Christ as our shepherd has been portrayed in countless ways throughout history. Look at this picture, The Lord is My Shepherd by Simon Dewey. Notice how the warm colors in this painting symbolize the warmth we can feel in knowing that He is watching over us. Just as he is our Shepherd, He has asked us to be his under-shepherds in watching over his flock. My hope is that you can feel the love and caring he has for each of us and the gentle and peaceful way he wants us all to watch over each other. Read the 23rd Psalm and ponder the peace and comfort it brings.

27. Gloves to protect hands when doing Service Projects
Helping Others: “When ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.” Mosiah 2:17
We can all Help! Calling yourself a Christian brings with it the duty and the privilege of a lifetime of service. Jesus Christ said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). This doesn’t mean we have to die to show our love for our friends. We lay down our lives every time we put someone else’s needs before our own. (And the ‘Friends’ mentioned in the scripture above can be understood to be everyone we meet, since Jesus also commanded us to ‘Love One Another’. We lay down our lives through service. Church members have many opportunities to serve. We can do small acts of kindness for our neighbors, take part in community service, fulfill responsibilities within our local congregations or contribute to the Church’s large-scale humanitarian efforts. These actions, whether great or small, let us feel the happiness of connecting with our brothers and sisters and remind us that God often allows us to be the answer to someone else’s prayers.

42. Lanolin Lotion or Sheep Milk Soap – Handmade Soap in Sheep Design (So easy to make and honestly a lot of fun!)
Making your own soap is fun and easy so if you have never tried melt and pour soap crafting before – now is your chance!!! The materials are easy to find and the steps are not complicated at all.
Most of the supplies will be available in your local craft store or your own kitchen at home – but I purchased a lot of my supplies online at Elements Bath and Body (a Wholesale Soap Making Company).
Materials Needed:
1. Melt and Pour (AKA “Glycerin”) Soap Base
This is a pre-made soap that comes in clear or white blocks. The white is the same as the clear base, but with a white colorant. It’s a basic soap that you can melt in the microwave, add colorants and fragrance to, and remold in any flexible container you have.
2. Rubbing Alcohol and a spray bottle
This is your best friend, and you will need it for every soap project. Just fill a small spray bottle with isopropyl rubbing alcohol from a drugstore and you are ready to go. A few light sprays will pop any surface bubbles when you’re done pouring the soap. It also makes soap layers adhere to one another if your are doing a multiple layer project.
3. Colorant (Liquid Colorant and or Micas can be used)
FD&C colorants are what you’ll most likely find at your local craft store. These look like liquid food colors and are practically the same, but not edible. Micas are made of little powdery flakes that are dyed. They are shimmery and sometimes even sparkle. Micas come as a powder so you will need to stir in a little rubbing alcohol to them before adding them to your project.
4. Fragrance Oils
One of the most exciting parts of making soap is choosing the fragrance. The options are practically infinite. You can find everything from tangy lemon to S’More scents. When shopping for fragrance oils make sure they are specifically for soap making. Do not use fragrance oils you buy at a grocery store intended for candles or extracts.
5. Soap Molds
One of the coolest thing about melt and pour soaps is that is takes the form of anything you pour it into, so there are many options. Whatever you choose – make sure it’s flexible, like plastic or silicone, so you can unmold your soap. Glass and metal are not good choices.
6. Stir Sticks (Popsicle Sticks work great)
7. Glass bowl to melt the soap in the microwave.
I use a large Pampered Chef Batter Bowl or a large Pyrex measuring Cup.
