He Called Them Two by Two Kit

There are many reasons why missionaries are sent out “Two by Two”. First of all it was given by way of revelation to Joseph Smith that he should send out missionaries in this manner.

D&C 42:6 ‘And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching my gospel, two by two, in my name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of God.’

This command was also given by the Savior himself when he sent forth his apostles “Two by Two” proclaiming his gospel to the people. Mark 6:7 ‘And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;’

This Place is a Zoo! It’s always so fun to see the pictures our missionaries send home of them opening up their crazy boxes decorated in whatever the theme of the box is and your little Monkey will surely love this crazy box!

Animal Kingdom Mail! One thing we always included in all of our Missionary Care Packages was a personalized letter to each Missionary from each mother. Inside our letters we included our testimonies, the reason we chose that particular item to include in the box, along with uplifting messages filled with love. Some of the items won’t make much sense as to why you are including them into your box unless you explain how it specifically applies to your Missionary and to Missionary work. Many times over I have received thank you letters from our Missionaries – but the things they thanked us all for the most were the letters we included. It’s just a little piece of ‘Home’ in a box – so don’t forget to write!

Hakuna Matata! As we decided on each ‘Missionary Box Theme’, which we based around a scripture or missionary teaching idea, we would then brainstorm fun ideas that could be included in our box. This ‘Box’ was pretty easy since we were able to find lots of scriptures and teaching ideas that we could relate back to animals and Missionary work. In our letters we explained…

Just as God called the animals to Noah’s ark – he also called you and your companion ‘Two by Two’. So how fitting that we send you an animal box as you head out two by two each Missionary day. You can learn so much from animals. Each one with specific attributes and characteristics that are so different from each other. I hope you can take a little bit of advice from each animal and use it in your development to be the best Missionary you can be!

I’m sure it was just as much fun for us to build it as it was for our missionaries to receive it! Depending on the size of the box you are sending – you could include or delete any of the following items – or come up with a few of your own. We tried to make sure that most of our items could be used to enhance missionary discussions, to be given away, to decorate their missionary apartments and left for future missionaries when they moved on, or simply eaten and enjoyed. But of course there were always a few that were just for fun!

Noah’s Ark Animal Ideas: Each mom chose 2 or 3 animals to include in our box and somehow tied it to Missionary work plus we included a tag with wisdom from each animal.

———————

There’s not much hope for an elephant to try to be a zebra. There are the stripes and trunk – and they are just more than a bit different. Zebras are zebras, and elephants are elephants no matter how much they want to be like the other.

And teenagers can be happy in their own skin and not try to be different for different groups of people, LDS seminary teacher and Especially For Youth speaker Hank Smith says on a recently released talk on CD “Be Who You Are.”

It gets complicated to remember how you are supposed to be around different people.

Oh, and Smith knows. On his eighth week as an EFY counselor one summer, he was assigned to help with parking-lot duty. This quickly got boring, and once he answered a question from an excited attendee with an Irish accent.

“This wasn’t a good idea,” he said.

She came back with “like 10 friends” to meet the EFY counselor from Ireland. he could have stopped right there, but he didn’t.

“Have you ever lied so much you started to believe it?”

The entire week, he was trying to remember who thought he was Irish and who just knew him from previous weeks as Hank from Utah.

And he never told the EFY group he wasn’t from Ireland.

Sometimes unintentionally, teenagers end up being different around different groups. “Before you can even begin to make a difference in the lives of other people, we have to know who we are,” Smith said. “Don’t try to fit into so many different places that you have so many different you’s that you’re getting mixed up sometimes.”

“People will respect you more if they see you are the same person in church as you are at school that you are at seminary,” Smith said. “You’ll have more friends that way. Because you’re trusted.”

Lion Quotes

Letter:
Dear Missionary,
One of the reasons I chose a Lion was what the LION signifies. My son, Elder Harrop, spoke of Lions in his farewell talk and sometimes ends his weekly letters with ‘Let’s all be Lions.” I wanted to share some of his talk with you and what he said about Lions.

Elder Harrop’s Mission Plaque Scripture: Isaiah 5:29
29 Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safe, and none shall deliver it.

Another thing I get from this scripture is the concept of us being lions. Something I’m big into is motivational speakers. My favorite is Eric Thomas and he has a speech talking about lions. Now the lion is the King of the Jungle. The best way to put it is that lions are just hands down beasts. And most people think lions are who they are because of how ferocious they are when they catch a gazelle or catch a zebra. But if a lion or a real hunter sees an animal that’s wounded what do they do? They don’t kill them. Why don’t they kill them? Cause their already hurt! And they’re a Beast. A part of being a beast isn’t just eating a gazelle, a part of being a beast is the hunt! It’s the hunt that their excited about! Cause real lions love to hunt. They love the process just as much as they love the prize!

So going on a mission is just the first path to take. The next step, the next path, the next choice is us as missionaries to choose to be like lions. We need to love the process. We need to not only love the 2 year long mission as a whole, but we need to choose to grow to love the process. Every time that alarm goes off at 6:30AM, every Book of Mormon we place, every lesson we teach, every person we baptize. We need to learn to love every moment as a missionary. IF we do this, we can bring others unto safety. We can bring others unto Christ. We need to give it 120% every minute of every hour of every day. Because in two short years, we don’t get to wear that tag anymore. We don’t get to be called Missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So we owe it to those that we teach to love the process so they can be brought unto safety.

So yes the path of serving a mission is the right one, but it’s just the first step. Those of you preparing to go on missions, grow to love the process of reading Preach My Gospel, grow to love reading the scriptures every day. Because as soon as that badge is on, it’s time for us to be lions, it’s time for us to be prepared.

Now place this LION on your desk and every day you see it – be reminded of the Lion and ……. GO GET EM!!!

Animal Soap:
Make your own Animal Soap!
Making your own soap is fun and easy so if you have never tried melt and pour soap crafting before – now is your chance!!! The materials are easy to find and the steps are not complicated at all.

Most of the supplies will be available in your local craft store or your own kitchen at home – but I purchased a lot of my supplies online at Elements Bath and Body (a Wholesale Soap Making Company).

Materials Needed:
1. Melt and Pour (AKA “Glycerin”) Soap Base
This is a pre-made soap that comes in clear or white blocks. The white is the same as the clear base, but with a white colorant. It’s a basic soap that you can melt in the microwave, add colorants and fragrance to, and remold in any flexible container you have.
2. Rubbing Alcohol and a spray bottle
This is your best friend, and you will need it for every soap project. Just fill a small spray bottle with isopropyl rubbing alcohol from a drugstore and you are ready to go. A few light sprays will pop any surface bubbles when you’re done pouring the soap. It also makes soap layers adhere to one another if your are doing a multiple layer project.
3. Colorant (Liquid Colorant and or Micas can be used)
FD&C colorants are what you’ll most likely find at your local craft store. These look like liquid food colors and are practically the same, but not edible. Micas are made of little powdery flakes that are dyed. They are shimmery and sometimes even sparkle. Micas come as a powder so you will need to stir in a little rubbing alcohol to them before adding them to your project.
4. Fragrance Oils
One of the most exciting parts of making soap is choosing the fragrance. The options are practically infinite. You can find everything from tangy lemon to S’More scents. When shopping for fragrance oils make sure they are specifically for soap making. Do not use fragrance oils you buy at a grocery store intended for candles or extracts.
5. Soap Molds
One of the coolest thing about melt and pour soaps is that is takes the form of anything you pour it into, so there are many options. Whatever you choose – make sure it’s flexible, like plastic or silicone, so you can unmold your soap. Glass and metal are not good choices.
6. Stir Sticks (Popsicle Sticks work great)
7. Glass bowl to melt the soap in the microwave.
I use a large Pampered Chef Batter Bowl or a large Pyrex measuring Cup.
